Catch Skin Cancer Early

Examine your own skin monthly. Pay special attention to moles, freckles, or other skin lesions. If you notice them changing, you should be examined by a Dermatologist sooner rather than later, regardless of symptoms.

Dr. Matthew Thompson

Practicing dermatology since 1997, Dr. Matthew Thompson was originally focused on becoming an orthopedic surgeon, but while teaching himself about the dermatology side of practicing medicine, he realized his calling to the profession. "I spent a lot of time reading about dermatologic conditions and seeing the 'skin' patients in a large general practice setting. I knew that I found a specialty that was just perfect for me…and now I am just that, a Board Certified Dermatologist."

After completing his residency in Dermatology at the Naval Hospital in San Diego, Dr. Thompson returned to the state he's always loved, New Mexico. It is in Albuquerque that Dr. Thompson has worked to build a client base at Dermatology & Skin Cancer Center of NM, (DSCCNM). At DSCCNM, Dr. Thompson and staff focus on diagnosis and care of the patient concerned about or diagnosed with skin cancer. "We perform a complete cutaneous exam to find melanoma for those at high risk, like a patient with a strong family history of skin cancer, melanoma, early life sunburns or those opting for the exam just as a precaution."

DSCCNM is a state-of-the-art facility when it comes to skin cancer treatment. In addition to the ability to rapidly diagnose problems, the practice has on-site surgical care for the convenience of patients. "We offer a great service to patients who might otherwise need a referral to a tertiary medical center; we can definitively and rapidly treat non-melanoma skin cancer such as basal cell and squamous cell carcinoma right here in our facility. Our in-practice Mohs surgeon has a tissue preparation lab to rapidly determine clear margins enabling our patients to leave with peace-of-mind regarding their skin cancer issues."

Dr. Thompson adds that the patient base at DSCCNM continues to grow and includes patients from all over our great state. "We encourage new patients to schedule an appointment and welcome physician and self referrals."

At Dermatology and Skin Cancer Center of NM (DSCCNM), Dr. Walters has built a large patient base by focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of skin problems and diseases. In particular, Dr. Walters provides treatment for patients with non-melanoma and melanoma skin cancers, offering them on-site surgical care and follow-up at DSCCNM’s state-of-the-art facility. Dr. Walters encourages new patients to call for a scheduled appointment, and welcomes both physician and self-referrals.
